On 11th June ended the BNP Parabas "hi-tech marathon", hosted by LUISS ENLABS, with the aim of creating and developing high technology solutions aimed at improving customer experience in the banking sector

On June 9th to 11th in Rome, the accelerator LUISS ENLABS, born from a joint venture between LVenture Group and LUISS Univeristy, held the third edition of the International Hackathon. The event, organized by BNP Paribas Group, aims to find the best ideas on innovation and digitalization in order to lay the foundations for a modern and competitive banking system.

The Hackathon has been structured as a true “hi-tech marathon”, being held simultaneously in the various countries involved, with more than 160 startups competing in Rome, Berlin, Brussels, Istanbul, Luxembourg, Nanjing, Paris, San Francisco, Singapore, and Warsaw. The cities have also faced a social challenge, the global hashtag battle, a 24-hour “battle” on Twitter, which saw the victory of the Roma social team.

The common goal of creating and developing high-technology solutions, aimed at improving customer experience in the banking sector, has linked all the participating cities, hence the main theme of this year’s competition: “Let’s create a state of the art customer experience”.

The high quality of the projects presented was proven with an unexpected fifth prize winner, in addition to the four teams already selected, so that five teams were selected in total. The winning startups will travel to Paris on December 1st to compete in the second phase of the international competition. Winners include BBBoyz and Mendua for their retail solutions (BNL) and Leasing (for BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions), and SpidChain, GoSherpy, and BankonVR for their solutions in Wealth Management.

The startups will receive a €7,000 prize in support for the further implementation of their work and will have access to the next co-working stage, where the teams will be able to develop a prototype of their ideas. During the 2017 Hackathon’s “Demo Day”, the finalists from the 10 participating cities will be invited to present their ideas to an international jury composed of a delegation from the Executive Committee of BNP Paribas by FinTech experts.
